[EN]In January 2010, the Board of Governors of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) agreed to create a new research institute, based in Santiago de Compostela, named the Institute of Heritage Sciences (Incipit)-CSIC. The scientific project for this centre had been produced by a joint committee appointed by the CSIC and the Regional Government of Galicia (the Xunta) in order to design a mixed centre between the CSIC and one of the Galician universities; at this stage of the procedure, the provisional name of the institute was the “Centre for Cultural Heritage Sciences” (CCPC), which was later rejected when it was decided to create this centre as an institute that formed a part of the CSIC itself. Here we offer three documents that complement each other, in different entries in Digital.CSIC: a summary of the Incipit project, the full Scientific Project, and an Appendix containing details of the personnel planned for this institute, including the personnel (from the Heritage Laboratory or LaPa, currently located in the Padre Sarmiento Institute of Galician Studies in Santiago de Compostela) who will be joining the Incipit.

The constitution, organisation and development of the LaPa unit is, in itself, a strategic objective of this plan. Its origins are in the LAr (Laboratory of Landscape Archaeology), which was created and developed at the IEGPS (Padre Sarmiento Institute of Galician Studies) through the Strategic Plan 2006-2009. The growth of the LAr, the expansion of its research subjects, the increasingly stronger orientation towards Heritage studies (already included in the existing SP), and the active incorporation of researchers from the ...

Societies today face multiple challenges stemming from the conflict between ‘market efficiency’ and ‘social welfare’ that are, in turn, the result of neoliberal policies affecting institutional legitimacy. Complex institutional logics associated with organisational responses are part of the early sociological debate about how organisations cope with established institutionalism in order to maintain legitimacy and survive. By employing an institutional framework and historical event sequencing approach, we aim to understand whether normative pressures can be understood to exert an influence of embeddedness and change. The paper analyses the emergence of Spanish contract archaeology after the 1990s. This new organisational pattern in the field of archaeology was a complex institutionalised process that gave rise to a new labour market. The economic crisis starting in 2008 has impacted this sector severely, to the extent that it is, at the time of writing, on the brink of extinction.

This book is a summary of a proposal with a radical principle: an archaeology that only target the generation of historical knowledge and does not address how it is produced, managed and socialized archaeological heritage is an insufficient archaology. And aims to provide some concrete ideas for building an applied archaeology by a comprehensive conception of the discipline, which aims to combine the generation of knowledge with its application to the solution of practical problems arising in the context of modernization, without losing the critical esence of the discipline.
It is divided into four parts: the first is an analysis of the structure of the profession today in Spain, in order to sharpen the approaches proposed below. The second part is a historical and philosophical contextualization. In the third section the concept of sustainable development as a framework suitable for archaeology is analized. And in the fourth part we venture a hypothetical structure for a research program in applied archaeology.
This book will be useful for professionals and students of archaeology and cultural heritage management, but also for the general public interested in issues of archaeology, cultural heritage, philosophy of science and technology, and sustainable development

Contributing for a Sustainable Archaeology: The impact of the Big Recession on Commercial Archaeology and Heritage activities compels us as archaeologists to rethink the way we undertake archaeological practice and develop our profession. If you have got any ideas, initiatives, or case studies to experience new modes of existence of archaeological activity, come to present them in the session “Archaeology and Heritage on the Way to Sustainability”. The session will take place in the the 22nd Annual Meeting of the EAA (European Association of Archaeologists) to be held in Vilnius (Lithuania) from August 31 to September 4, 2016. The session statement can be found at the following link: http://eaavilnius2016.lt/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/116.pdf , but is also enclosed in the attached file. We encourage you to participate in this meeting, which we hope will be of interest, given the crossroads where European Archaeology is right now. Please submit your proposal through the link: https://www.eventure-online.com/eventure/welcome.form?type=abstract&congress=152_EAA&c=bd4350a3-56f9-46d1-8d66-514d76e0eb3c). The deadline for proposals is 15 February 2016. Please send this message to those people who you think might be interested. At the next EAA meeting, which will take place in Maastricht, I will have the honor to share the co-organization of a round-table with my Greek colleagues Sofia Voutsaki (University of Groningen) and Kostas Kotsakis (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). We have excited about it, because we have organized a panel with interesting and varied people, and I think we are going to address a controversial issue, as reflected in this document.
With the opening of this page I want to start a debate that generates ideas and arguments for the discussion in Maastricht. I open the debate with a very direct question: Is European archeology reflecting the processes of increasing differentiation between rich and poor Europeans?
