My PhD research, with working title Scenes of memory. Spanish discourses on the Yugoslav wars of dissolution (1990 – 2007), addresses the transition in memory politics in Spain within a European context. Departing from the idea that the war in former Yugoslavia is an important reference in European understanding of history, memory and war, the project analyses the impact of the Balkan war on the Spanish society and in particular on the Spanish discourse on war crimes, genocide and (transitional) justice. The project aims to explore the influences of contemporary events and international contexts on recent transitions in memory practices and politics.
