About

I am currently working on my PhD dissertation at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, which deals with ethnicity during antiquity in the lower Tagus river basin, an area which spans large portions of modern Spain and Portugal.
As part of the Social Structure and Territory-Landscape Archaeology research group (in Spanish Estructura Social y Territorio-Arqueología del Paisaje, EST-AP), I partake in many archaeological and heritage projects, among which Las Médulas is one of the great successes. This group applies landscape archaeology methodology to territories of northwestern Iberian Peninsula (though work has been carried out in other parts of the peninsula as well as in Italy). Given the terrific wealth in gold of this area -which the Romans knew well- the archaeological analysis of landscape entails great knowledge of Roman gold mining. Very interesting results have been found when understanding just how much indigenous populations had to change because of Roman imperialist interest in gold, evolving from castro hill-fort self-sufficient communities to tax-paying civitates of the empire.
I am currently hired for management of a large project acronym CSD-TCP, belonging to the Ingenio 2010 programme of the Spanish government. The project has to do with the use of new technologies in analysing, studying and managing cultural heritage. It involves 16 groups of various profiles from different Spanish institutions. Soon it will have a web site you can browse.
